Act I

The Family Gathering

The Karamazovs gather at the monastery to settle a dispute over Dmitri’s inheritance. The meeting descends into scandal as Fyodor plays the buffoon, insulting the elders and humiliating his son.

The Rivalry

Dmitri and his father Fyodor are locked in a vicious triangle over Grushenka. Dmitri needs 3,000 rubles to pay back his fiancée Katerina and run away with Grushenka, but Fyodor has the money ready to buy Grushenka’s love.

Act III

The Murder

Dmitri, in a frenzy, searches for Grushenka. He arrives at his father’s house with a brass pestle in hand. Later, Fyodor is found dead—skull crushed. The 3,000 rubles are missing.
